Thank you for taking the time to click on this page. My name is Kiona Nessenbaum. I am a mom of 3, a wife, a birth doula, a birth assistant, and a former student midwife in the greater Seattle area. I have a strong passion for birth, which led me to create my podcast, Birth As We Know It™️. It is a birth education podcast that is dedicated to recognizing the many different ways birth unfolds.

I interview birthing people, partners, birth workers, providers, and more. I speak with them about their personal birth stories or experiences, to shine a light into the many birth spaces that people take for granted. Hearing how individual people experience birth, directly from them, re-humanizes birth and brings the individuals that are impacted by the policies and procedures that are put into place within all birth locations (hospitals, birth centers, homes) to the forefront. It also provides opportunities for listeners to relate to someone or something they may have felt alone about.

This is extremely relevant because it brings awareness to how birth takes place at the individual level. And as cliche as it sounds, everyone is born. And the way in which they were born impacts how they are able to live their life and can impact how they decide to birth when and if they become parents themselves. Each birth experience they have also leads the way in what decisions they will make the next time around.

With all of that said, I have created this GoFundMe page to ask you to help me continue to spread these amazing stories and grow the BAWKI™️ Community by getting me to Washington DC.

The Podcast Movement Conference will be held in Washington DC, August 19th-22nd 2024. That is only a few short months away. This conference is THE WORLD'S LARGEST PODCASTING CONFERENCE! I need to attend this conference to learn more about how to properly produce a podcast, to network with other podcasters, and to ensure I take the proper steps as I create this much-needed content for all of you Birth As We Know It™️ listeners.

I am asking you all for help because my family is a single-income home and cannot afford the $2000 it will cost for me to be able to attend this conference. I am also asking because the content that I share on my podcast has the ability to educate people on their birthing options, to feel connected to others, and to be a space where they can share their birth story or experience with a host and audience that is genuinely curious in learning more.

$2000 will go toward:

-Standard Pass to the Podcast Movement Conference ($300)

-Roundtrip Flight from SEA to IAD ($500-$600)

-Hotel Stay for 5 nights: Check-in Aug. 18th-Check-out Aug 23rd ($750)

-Food and Commute Costs ($250-$350)

If for some reason I am unable to meet my goal of raising $2000 or am unable to attend the conference for any unforeseen circumstances, I will donate the funds accrued to a pregnant individual to obtain either a birth doula, a postpartum doula, or childbirth education.
