Support Becca's Recovery: Climbing Accident Fund

Donation protected
Hello, I'm Parker, Becca's partner and boyfriend of five years. As many of you know Becca was involved in a rock climbing accident in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park on Monday September 11th, 2023 when a foothold broke and she fell to a ledge and sustained a number of serious injuries. I wouldn't describe myself as a particularly experienced or knowledgeable climber so I'll leave those details to people who know better than myself.

Thanks to the incredibly quick and thoughtful reactions of her climbing partner that day, a monumental effort launched by Search and Rescue teams from all around the region and a daring helicopter airlift performed by the National Guard, Becca was brought to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, CO where she was stabilized and allowed to begin her recovery journey. Myself, her family and her friends cannot even begin to express our sincerest thanks to everyone involved who put their own lives at risk in order to give our beloved Becca a fighting chance. Thank you so so so much <3

With the incredible effort, experience and loving care that's been provided by St. Mary's medical staff, Becca has made amazingly positive strides towards returning to a healthy state. Without getting into too much detail Becca fractured several bones including pelvis, rib and neck. She also broke her elbow and had a collapsed lung but thankfully none of those are severe enough to require additional surgeries and should heal on their own schedule. The most serious of injuries Becca sustained was to her head and brain (She was wearing her helmet which 100% saved her life). She has been unconscious since the incident but like I said earlier is already responding to increasingly complex verbal commands. She is with us and aware of us and all of the overwhelming support everyone has already and continues to give.

With that said, many people have been asking me how they can support her going forward. While food and support for myself is very much appreciated, Becca will have a long road of recovery ahead and we suspect unforeseen financial hurdles. If you are so inclined this would be a fantastic way to show support for Becca (or as I call her "B") in her time of need.

At this point I'm not sure where those funds would be used but it will only be used for whatever her insurance does not cover. I will make a point to document it and any funds leftover will be donated to the Search & Rescue teams that took part in the rescue. Further, I encourage you also to support your local S&R team.

If you don't know Becca personally I'll do my best to describe her personality and why I love her so much. I'm sure many people love her for reasons different than mine as she is a deep, thoughtful and complex woman with a wonderfully multifaceted nature.

Becca is incredibly detailed and strives to be the best version of herself daily. I've never seen anyone make so many lists, journal with such intensity and be so intentional with choices in life. She is an independent thinker who is deeply spiritual and feels a connectedness with that spirit through nature. It's partly why she loves to climb rocks, ride bikes, hike, surf and bask in the beauty of it all.

She is also a giver, who teaches Yoga and spends hours designing her classes to be healing of body and mind for her students. She is also honest, curious and can light up a room with her smile and eyes.

In the five years we have spent together I've watched her community and friendships grow and blossom into deep relationships with equally caring and thoughtful people. I remember on her 30th birthday we had invited some people to grab drinks and snacks. Becca was worried no one would show up on the way there and when we arrived the whole bar area had been overrun with her friends!

I could go on for a long time about her character but I know with her personality and character she should have no trouble overcoming this chapter of her life. It will just take patience and practice :)

Be sure to hug your loved ones and let them know you love them often, as Becca has always done.
