Help Becca Get Her Prosthetic Hand!

Donation protected
Hello everybody,

I am making this GoFundMe for my daughter. My daughter Rebecca recently had to have her left hand amputated in August 2023 after suffering an injury to her arm two years ago. The surgery went well, but she experienced some complications in healing that have pushed back the timeline for her to get a prosthetic hand. But finally, 7 months post amputation, she is ready physically to move forward in the prosthetic process! But she has unexpectedly run into a big problem that will stop her from being able to get her hand.

A couple of days ago her car broke down for the second time in two months, but this time it is unable to be fixed. In general, it is difficult to not have a car these days, but it is essential that Becca has reliable transportation because her entire surgical, therapy and prosthetic team is in Milwaukee. In order for Becca to get her hand, which will allow her to gain more independence and return to a more normal life, she needs to be able to attend appointments with the prosthetic company in Milwaukee. It is the closest prosthetic company to where she lives that will work with her insurance and can supply the type of electric hand she needs. She also needs to attend occupational therapy in Milwaukee. That is who will help her learn how to use her device, and adjust it based on her needs. As it will be a myoelectric hand, it will require a lot of training and adjusting. Her prosthetic will require an occupational therapist that is trained on her specific device, and the closest occupational therapist with that training is at Froedtert in Milwaukee.

My daughter Becca takes a lot of pride in being independent and not needing to ask for help. She works so hard, always working extra hours at Bradford and doing odd jobs on the side like petsitting and instacart. She even went back to work just 7 days after her amputation so that she would be able to continue taking care of herself and her bills by herself while recovering. I don’t know how she did it. This is a large and unexpected expense that she can’t overcome by herself right now. Her car has required a few thousand dollars worth of repairs in the last few months and while she managed to make those repairs happen, they were all for nothing. She is now left with no financial means to buy herself another car because of all of those repairs.

My daughter has been there for me constantly over the last year and a half while I dealt with my own major health problems, supporting me through many surgeries, hospitalizations and the last 8 months in inpatient rehab. I know I wouldn’t have gotten through it all without her. She told me it’s no big deal and she would do everything all over again for me in a heartbeat, but I know it has been a lot for her to handle, so I want to help her in any way possible. After everything she has been through in the last couple years, Becca deserves to be able to get her hand and finally start moving forward with her life, but she can only do that if she has a way to physically get to all of her specialists in Milwaukee. Any little bit you could find in your heart to give would be more appreciated than you could ever know! Thank you!
