Help Becca get to treatments!

Donation protected
Hi, this is Heather and Katie and we started this GoFundMe to help our dear friend, Becca. Becca has been battling stage IV breast cancer and recently got some bad news that she will need to get radiation treatment to her skull. Becca’s mom is helping take care of her during this hard time, but she is also dealing with some health issues herself. Becca could use some extra money to hire rides back and forth from treatments. If you don’t know Becca, she is a force of nature and has been a pivotal part in helping kids learn to flyfish. She runs two organizations that help people through flyfishing: Becca Sue Klien All Kids Fish and Reeling in Serenity. She has been dealt a hard blow, but hasn’t let cancer get in the way of helping people. I can’t say enough about this beautiful woman. We thank you to the bottom of our fishy souls.

Below is a message from Becca’s mom:

Update on my daughter, Rebecca Sue Klein:

Last Thursday Becca was diagnosed with Jugular Foramen Syndrome (JFS) which refers to paralysis of five of her cranial nerves. It’s my cancer in her skull causing this. The entire right side of her esophagus isn’t working anymore. This is what was causing her issues with swallowing and hoarseness over Thanksgiving week when she was down in Florida. It came on quick.
The cancer is destroying her skull floor and in turn impacting the nerves coming out of her brain – specifically the ones that manage her right side. Part of this also includes weakness in her right arm, which is a new symptom. This is especially discouraging giving her love of fly fishing, so she will be looking to therapy at Turning Point Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Center in Marietta.
Unfortunately there is no cure for this. The major concern right now is getting the cancer under control so that they can prevent any further nerve damage. Jon and Becca went to a speech/swallow therapist for some tests last Friday and found that she can assist her swallowing by turning her head to the right. This closes off the paralyzed side of her throat and forces everything to the left side. We have been very grateful with this news, as it takes feeding tube off the table !
She has also been having bad headaches the past month or so. This is all related to the cancer. On Monday we saw the radiation oncologist and they are going to do radiation to her entire skull to help with both pain management and to hopefully shrink the cancer so the nerve damage isn’t worsened. They need an MRI to do this, but the earliest they can get her in will be 12/15. So we will do the MRI that morning, and then mapping and a CT scan that afternoon so they can build her mask for radiation. We are thinking radiation will take place December 18-22, although it hasn’t been scheduled yet. Thank you for all your prayers and support! Love to you all ❤️
