Help Becky Beat Ocular Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, I’m one of Becky’s closest friends and greatest fans. Recently, during a routine eye exam, Becky’s doctor found a lesion on her retina. After a highly stressful battery of tests and scans, Becky was diagnosed with ocular melanoma. Fortunately, further scans indicate that it has not yet metastasized, but she has a long road of surgery, radiation, and recovery ahead of her. Unfortunately, it is unclear if she’ll be able to keep her eye, and if so, whether she’ll retain any vision in it.
Becky left AK two years ago to live out her previously postponed dream of independently roaming the country with her black lab, Vista. Her adventure hadn’t even left the ground when her mom, Pat, was sadly diagnosed with an aggressive form of terminal brain cancer. Becky immediately—selflessly—stepped in to be Pat’s caretaker, and helped her fight every day until she lost her battle in May of last year.
Earlier this year, Becky drove her Dad to Florida to support him as he repaired damages from Hurricane Ian to the snowbird retirement home he and Pat had shared. This was supposed to be a period of emotional healing for both of them, with a return to Michigan in early spring. However, with her critical, unexpected diagnosis, Becky had to make the difficult decision to remain in Florida, away from her friends, her family, and her partner: essentially her entire support system (except her Dad, who has fortunately been able to remain in Florida with her).
Becky is financially independent and solely responsible for all expenses related to her cancer battle: extensive out-of-network medical bills for surgery, radiation and treatment, leave without pay, and frequent travel expenses to Miami, where her surgeon and specialists are located. She’s also still recovering from expenses she took on for her mother’s treatment. All funds raised are set up to transfer directly to Becky.
As anyone close to her knows, Becky is selfless and would never ask for help. But that’s what we are here for. Let’s all pull together to help alleviate some of Becky’s financial stressors during this difficult time, so she can focus on what matters most: kicking cancer’s ass!
