Help Desoto Family Through Medical Crisis
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Rachel and I’m raising funds to help my sister, Becky, brother in law, Adrian and their three small children as they face a medical crisis and long road to recovery.
Years ago, my sister and her husband
hit black ice while driving upstate New York and were in a terrible car accident where they needed to be cut out of the car. It was an absolute miracle that they survived. Becky sustained a severe head injury which impacts her to this day. Following the accident, Adrian required multiple surgeries, including having a rod put into his leg. Fast forward to this past fall, he started experiencing a lot of pain in this leg where the rod was located, and was advised to wear compression socks and that it was likely scar tissue. His pain continued to worsen to the point where he was having a hard time walking, and at work would have to sit regularly in order to get through the day.
He was finally referred in for scans and then diagnosed with a tumor in his leg with a very rare and aggressive sarcoma. He underwent five weeks of radiation where the hope was to shrink the tumor and then be able to operate. Unfortunately, not only was the tumor non-responsive to the radiation, but it actually grew during this time. His doctors are now recommending an immediate amputation, stating it’s either his life or his leg. There is a high risk that if it does not happen immediately the cancer will spread into the bones and as it’s very aggressive and so far non responsive to treatment, it’s likely not treatable and will be terminal. There is still a risk after amputation that the cancer will return but we are hoping and praying that after this surgery he can have a long, though altered life.
During this time, Adrian has been able to work part time but within the next three weeks and following his amputation surgery, he will be on a very long road to recovery. Unfortunately, the limited amount of disability benefits alone cannot support their young family and with high amounts of student debt, they have not been able to save as much as they wish they had for a crisis. My siblings and I are doing whatever we can to get them through this hard time and are sharing this in case any of our extended family and friends want to help them as well. We just want to ensure that he can recover and they can begin to heal without the added stress of worrying about survival. Beyond his own family, Adrian was also providing support for his parents who are immigrants from Venezuela. It has been very disheartening for him to know that due to this medical situation he is now very limited in what he can do for his family.
Thank you for your love and support. May God bless you always!
