Help Bedale Sports Club Recover from Devastating Thefts

Hello, Friends and Supporters,

I'm Martyn Coombs, Chairman of the Bedale Sports Club and Community Centre, and I’m reaching out to you today because we need your help.

Our Story

In May, our beloved community sports club faced two devastating break-ins. The first incident saw several essential pieces of grounds maintenance equipment stolen. Despite our best efforts to secure the premises, the thieves returned the following weekend, stealing our compact tractor with grass mower and severely damaging our triple mower, which was later found on the Wensleydale railway line.

We thought our insurance would cover these losses, but unfortunately, the small print told a different story, and our appeal has little chance of success.

Our Needs

To date, we’ve had to spend:

£1,400 to replace the small petrol mower, leaf blower, grass strimmer, and hedge cutter

£3,750 to repair the triple mower

£3,200 to install a pair of bespoke steel doors for our storeroom

We still need to replace the compact tractor with grass mower, which leaves us £8,350 out of pocket and dangerously close to financial insolvency.

Why It Matters

Our club is a volunteer-run association that relies on membership fees, levies, and external events to operate. We are home to a thriving junior cricket section and a football development team, providing young players with opportunities to compete at various levels. The equipment used by our dedicated volunteer groundsman is crucial for maintaining top-notch playing facilities for cricket, football, and croquet.
