Our dear friend and colleague, Beka is in the fight for her life. She has beat cancer twice already and we believe she can beat it again. She just needs our help! Let’s give this warrior the resources she needs to win this battle!

Below is Beka’s story, thank you so much for taking the time to read it.

Most of my friends and family are aware of my cancer history and my present condition. For those of you who don’t, let me sum it up. In 2007, I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. After two years of chemotherapy and three surgeries “I BEAT IT!”

In 2020 when most people were on lockdown from Covid-19, I experienced severe abdominal pain. After a missed diagnosis, a CT scan revealed “ a hole in my colon leaking into my gut, and it was septic”. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital waiting for the hole to heal. Once the hole was healed, I saw a leading Colorectal Doctor. The result was the removal of 13 inches of my colon and the diagnosis of Stage 3 colon cancer. Gene Mutation tests revealed no mutations. Six months more of chemotherapy and once again “I BEAT IT!”.

Test results every three months and all results were great, no cancer! I was released to testing every six months with lab draws every three months to test for Cancer Markers/Tumors. The first 3 months showed “tumor markers”. A PET scan revealed the cancer was back with a vengeance.

My Colon cancer has metastasized to my liver and has infected lymph nodes. A biopsy of the liver revealed Stage 4 cancer. I started Immunotherapy and Chemotherapy in February 2023. At this point, surgery is not an option and won’t be until the cancer can be targeted and reduced.

A sample was sent to a CDC affiliate called “Foundation Medicine”, for another gene test and the results came back that I have 5 Gene Mutations, all possible environmental contaminants.
Even with the recent improvements in the science, there is no formula for correcting gene issues.

I spend 5 hours in the Chemo-lab every other week and have a chemo pump attached to a port in my chest that pumps 48 hours of chemotherapy. The side effects are brutal and I am down for 3-5 days. This is devastating to every aspect of my life.

I have good insurance but am still responsible for the 20% the insurance does not cover. I have been fortunate to have the foundation's assistance with the cost of the Immunotherapy treatments, but I am still facing incredible costs for the other treatments. I have applied for assistance from several other foundations. While I am getting a response, it’s still not enough and eventually, they will limit the total amount they will contribute.

I am single, 57 with no children or family who can help. It’s just me and my dog and I am in the “fight for my life”. Any assistance you can offer would be highly valued. Thank you and God Bless!
