Help Belinda fight brain cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Andrea McNamara and I am fundraising for my friend Belinda Bright, from Moe/Newborough, affectionately known to family and friends as Lou.
Belinda was diagnosed with a malignant, incurable brain tumour at age 28.
Since then, Belinda has undergone multiple brain surgeries, including 3 to remove as much of the tumour as possible and has suffered through countless rounds of chemotherapy and radiation.
These treatments have allowed Belinda 20 years of living with cancer, years that she has been able to work as a registered nurse, caring for others.
Belinda is kind and funny, a fantastic friend, daughter, sister and aunty, and is compassionate and caring.
Belinda’s last major surgery to remove most of the tumour was in September 2023 and unlike other surgeries which have given her years of relatively normal life, she now has an acquired brain injury and is bravely participating in a new experimental medical trial which will pave the way for more effective treatments for brain cancer patients in the future.
Due to cancer and the effects of treatments, Belinda is suffering from epilepsy, diabetes and cognitive decline in memory and concentration and is unable to drive, work or live independently without support.
Belinda has been told by her oncologist and cancer specialist that her best chance at survival lies in undertaking a new treatment that costs $50,000 per year.
Belinda thinks this is a ridiculous amount of money, but her family and friends would like to try and raise some money to give her the best chance of living and some quality of life.
Belinda’s aim is to continue to live in her own home and be as independent as she can be, for as long as possible. With 2 dogs, 1 cat and some chooks to care for, she is needed at home and her animals are her life!
Belinda has been battling brain cancer on her own for so long, but is unable to bear the load by herself anymore. She is fiercely independent and has never before asked for any help.
Belinda’s family and I have decided to try to raise money through Go Fund Me to assist in covering the cost of her treatment and to support Belinda to live in her home as long as she is able, with appropriate care and support, whist maintaining her quality of life.
Any funds raised will go directly to Belinda.
Please, if you can contribute, it will be greatly appreciated. Every little bit counts.
Thank you.
