Support the Brooks family with the loss of Ben
26th January 2022:
Today our beautiful boy, Benjamin Brooks, passed away with his beautiful Queen and our family by his side. Ben’s wish was to get out of hospital and spend his last days in a penthouse suite overlooking the river. That we did! The photos below were Monday afternoon after discharge from hospital. He was so happy to be free and thanked us for a great afternoon. I’m so pleased we were able to be a part of his wish. Yesterday his group of special mates visited and last night he shared stories and laughs with a few of his work mates. A special day where there were no hospital restrictions, no daily bloods, no poking and prodding for obs, no noisy hospital wards or machines.
He is now free from Cancer and free from the mental anguish this horrible disease placed on him over the last 7 months. Our hearts are truly broken losing this beautiful young man.
So many thank yous to be made, but an initial thank you to RBWH for jumping into action so quickly for us Monday and the St Vincent’s Palliative nurses that were with us yest and overnight to help keep Ben comfortable. And the Wesley Hospital for your exceptional care and support the first 6 months.
I will cherish every single memory we shared for an eternity.
I love you mate ❤️ Be at peace and trust that we will embrace Tegan and Carter now and long into the future.
June 2021:
Ben Brooks, only 21 years of age, has started his journey with chemo treatment just last week.
One week ago, after noticing alarming symptoms of a quick forming lump on his neck (which he thought was a swollen gland) he was hurried to Brisbane for further testing to find out he has been diagnosed with T-Lymphoblastic Lymphoma/Leukaemia.
Ben is in for a long journey of treatment. Having just gone unconditional on a new house and a beautiful baby boy on the way, the next 12months will be challenging and we want to help in any way possible.
We would love to share Brooksy’s story for awareness of cancer and to also further assist him and his beautiful partner Tegan with ongoing costs. We understand it may be hard for some to donate, but just know every cent counts and will help immensely. If you want to help but can’t donate, please share this post.
With the love and support of family & friends, we can make a positive impact on his journey.
A bit about Ben’s story
Life seemed normal until just a week and a half ago, feeling a lump form above his collar bone. He experienced indigestion for a couple of months and a bit of a tight chest on occasions.
Having noticed the lump on his neck, he went to the doctor in Kingaroy In just a couple of days, where he was told to go to Brisbane immediately.
After completing all testing, they found a tumour in the middle of his chest (looking larger than a tennis ball) and the second biggest on his neck. This is Lymphoma. Further testing was conducted on his bone marrow, to then find the cancer was leukaemic.
It has been a fast growing cancer, making its impact on him quickly, so treatment was started straight away and Doctors confirmed they will run an intense continuous treatment regime for 6-9 months. Realistically Ben won’t be able to get back to work for at least 12 months and Tegan will be taking early maternity leave to support Ben every step of the way!
Let’s get together and make a difference for this beautiful little growing family! ❤️
