My name is Benjamin, and I’m an aspiring actor!

 

I have been cast in the British Youth Music Theatre’s production of Angry Salmon. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I feel honoured to have been cast from thousands of young people who apply each year!

 

Inspired by true stories, this funny and imaginative new musical is ‘The Little Mermaid’ meets ‘Family Guy’, bubbling with humour, filled with big characters, adventurous songs, inventive jumping between land and sea and with an important message behind about taking care of our planet. It reveals the story of salmon that are escaping from salmon farms in their masses. Ill-fit for life back in the wild, they are unable to find food, unable to migrate efficiently, and unable to care for their fellow salmon. And the salmon are angry.

 

In a big, cartoonish underwater world, the show follows the inhabitants of a thriving fish-farm, and the Di-Carprio’s - a family of salmon, who dream of life ‘upstream’. Leo (the eldest daughter), sick of life stuck inside the tanks, galvanizes the clan of salmon, and initiates a mass escape through a crack in the borders. Suddenly, they find themselves in the deep blue sea, with one aim: find their fellow salmon.

 

Taking part in this production means everything to me. Musical theatre & acting are my absolute passions and to have been offered the chance to perform and learn under the direction of such an incredible professional creative team is a dream come true!

 

BYMT is a small arts charity with no core funding and relies upon participants’ fees, ticket sales and income generated through fundraising. Please take a look at the BYMT website for more information https://britishyouthmusictheatre.org

 

The reason I am asking for support is, in order to participate in the production, I need to raise £2500.00 by early June which pays for travel costs, residential rehearsals, pastoral care, food, etc. BYMT tries to keep the course fees as low as possible but the truth of the matter is that they don’t even cover half the cost of the experience.

 

I am 19 years old and hoping to attend drama school. I have participated in countless youth theatre and amateur productions over the past 10 years, both in the US and the UK!

 

 

 

 

 

British Youth Music Theatre (formerly Youth Music Theatre UK) is a national performing arts education charity that specialises in creating brand new music theatre.

BYMT bridges the gap between local/regional drama groups and formal training at drama school/conservatoire. Since 2003 we have trained over 8,000 young people, many of whom have successfully entered the creative industries such as Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Lauren Samuels, Charlotte Ritchie, Jack Bence, Lucy Griffiths and many more. We've also created over 80 brand new musicals, including Loserville the Musical, which went on to be produced professionally at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and in the West End and was nominated for Best New Musical at the Olivier, Whatsonstage and BroadwayWorldUK awards!
