Help Beth Smith Get Back to Biking!

Donation protected
You may know her as Beth, Mrs. Smith, or the lady who used to walk past your house every night for numerous years. She is true Tipp City native that has impacted the lives of the countless children she has babysat for, raised, or taught at St. John's Early Childhood Program. Beth loves the outdoors, Disney, traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with her two granddaughters. Herself and her husband, Sanford, will go ABOVE AND BEYOND and out of their way to help anyone in need no matter the time and expect nothing in return.

On May 23, 2021 Beth and Sanford were going for their weekly bike rides, out to enjoy the weather and sights of Tipp City and Miami County. Unfortunately, on the way home there was an accident. Beth hit the back of Sanford's bike and fell off her bicycle at the intersection of Second and Dow Street. Some may say Sanford is to blame for the quick cut-off and sharp turn but please lets not have any hard feelings for him, I have heard the nurses and doctors gave him enough grief at the hospital! ;)

Instantly she knew something wasn't right while she lay there unable to move and her leg shaking. As quick as she fell, I am told, neighbors and people passing by were right there beside her offering their helping hand, asking what they could do, bringing her a chair of their front porch, and handing her cup of ice cold water. One person rode Beth's bike with Sanford to get the car and rush to the Emergency Room.

A few hours later she was being transferred from the Troy Emergency Room to the Kettering Hospital to await for surgery. Three breaks. A complete fracture  straight across. A piece of broken bone on its own. The femur broke. Or in lames terms, for people like myself, she had a broken hip. The next afternoon she underwent surgery to have a titanium pin and two screws placed in her leg. She would have to spend two nights in the hospital before given the option to go home and complete at home therapy or go live somewhere for two weeks where therapy was given. Anyone who knows Beth knows she would rather be home...

Now my mom is at home, healing, and completing therapy multiple times a week for several weeks. She is looking forward to be able to go up and down the stairs as soon as next week.

Because of this incident their summer vacation to Maine has been postponed, bike rides have been pushed back, and walks around the block with her grand daughters will have to hold off for just a little longer.

As I said before my parents are the last people in the world to ever ask of anything from anyone, which is why I'm asking you all to help them out if you are able. In whatever way. A prayer, your good thoughts, a friendly message, or if you are able, a small donation.

These donations will first be put towards Beth's medical expenses, surgery costs, prescription costs, physical therapy fees. Any extra will be put towards relieving the loss of wages my father incurred with spending his days at the hospital by her side and missing out on work. I want to relieve the financial burden of this accident for my parents so they get back to enjoying life and the summer months to come!

Thank you to everyone in advance. Thank you for being great neighbors, friends, family, strangers, and fellow Tipp City folks , if you are! Have a wonderful day and stay smiling. :) Feel free to share this page and spread the word.

I will keep everyone updated on Beth’s progress and healing!
