Hello everyone,
My name is Malena Toscano, one of Beto's daughters. On behalf of him and our family, we have created this fundraiser. The reason for it is that he is going through a rough life-threatening illness that started with ulcerative colitis. It followed with surgery to remove his colon. As a result of his first surgery, he got a very rare condition called DIC (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation). This anomaly causes his body to formulate clots but also bleed at the same time. Following this complication, he had to have four surgeries, one of which included brain surgery for a stroke that his condition presumably caused.
Currently, he has a very long and bumpy road to recovery. He's in the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital's ICU. He is in critical condition as well as fighting hard against all of the complications his body throws at him. We are very hopeful that he will recover, and we are also grateful to have a big community of family and friends that love, not only him but us as well.
Thankfully we have an amazing team of doctors that have been keeping a close eye on him and giving him all the care he has needed during this past couple of weeks. We couldn't be luckier in that aspect.
This fund is to help him pay the bills that unfortunately don't press pause when an emergency like this happens and to cover some of the medical expenses. We have been receiving all the love that has come our way and it has made an incredible difference during this hard process. We will be forever grateful to you with whatever contribution you can make. It's a long process and we are uncertain of what lies on the other side of the hill (which feels like a mountain), but we hope that he will overcome it soon.
Love to everyone,
The Toscanos.
