Help BikeTown ride up from the ashes
In the early morning hours of July 8th, 2021, BikeTown (our only bike shop in Abilene, Texas) was ravaged by fire. The flames engulfed the building’s interior and rendered it unusable at this time.
Many of us recognize and understand the impact of this tragedy will be deeply felt, not only in Abilene, but throughout the state of Texas. BikeTown, and it’s owners, Jim and Kelly MacDonald, have enriched our local community and the state wide biking community for more than 25 years. Maybe you’ve had the pleasure of visiting the shop and shooting the breeze with Jim or one of his skilled mechanics. Maybe you’ve participated in one of the many events that BikeTown sponsors, like Tour de Gap, BentWheel Bash, T.M.B.R.A. races, and many other community building opportunities. Or maybe you’ve been the recipient of the funds they have raised to help various groups throughout our community and state. Regardless of how their steadfast commitment to our community has enriched your life, now is the time for their community to step up and support them.
At this time we, Zach and Meg Knight, are asking you to partner with us in helping Jim and Kelly provide for their family and staff. Jim, Kelly, and their four amazing kids are our dearest friends. As fellow small business owners we understand the responsibility of caring and providing for your own family as well as the people you are blessed to employ. As the staff of BikeTown sifts through the ashes and negotiates insurance claims there will inevitably be a time of limbo and uncertainty. This is the gap we are aiming to bridge. Together, as a community, we can bridge this gap and help our friends at BikeTown ride on.
Many of you have asked what you can do or how you can help. Right now there is an immediate need for monetary funds. As the situation develops we will keep you updated on other needs that arise. Thank you all for your help!
*We thank God that no one was in the building at the time the fire ignited! We would also like to express gratitude to the Abilene Fire and Police departments for their quick response and diligent work in extinguishing the flames.
