Help Bill Marsh enlighten us

I've known Bill since I 12. He decided to pursue music as a career about a year after I met him and has followed this path since then. I recently reconnected with him down in LA where he moved a half year ago. He has started offering free coaching on Facebook via live video as a form of self expression. My brief interactions with Bill recently have changed my life drastically in a very positive way and now in light of the recent economic downturn and the effect on his ability to make money as a performance artist he is in a financial situation that makes me sad. I love Bill dearly and want him to keep offering this service to the world. I would recommend anyone find him on Facebook and watch some of his videos, even if you are not an artist the truth in the lessons he's teaching are universal and can have a positive impact on anyone's life.

A message from Bill:
Hello friends,
My name is William Seiji Marsh, and I’m a guitarist, educator, and music mindset coach. Just before this pandemic hit, I was performing internationally with Pink Martini, Edna Vazquez, and Cardioid. In the past I have toured with Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Halie Loren and Lost Lander, among many others. Prior to my move to Los Angeles last summer, I taught guitar in Oregon at both Reed College and Willamette University. I have been a professional guitarist and educator since I started teaching and performing for a living during my college years at the University of Oregon.
My current situation is similar to those of many musicians and freelancers right now. I had performance work lined up, which I felt was something I could count on to float me while I continued building my music coaching business. Like so many others, those opportunities vanished almost literally overnight, and current circumstances indicate that it may be months before we will be able to return to performing in public.
I took this initial shock as an opportunity to double-down on my commitment to transforming the music industry through coaching and education. I remain committed to supporting my community of performers such that they feel empowered to be the authors of their own creative journeys.
In the past month I have been offering free coaching to the members of my community. I have offered weekly free masterclasses on Facebook Live, and I have given a pro-bono remote master class to one of my former teacher’s 8th grade ensembles.
I remain hopeful that through being generous with myself, my skills and my resources, I will be able to generate an income that is in line with my commitment to transforming my industry. I’ve been having sales calls with people who I think are so ripe for massive breakthroughs. However, many of them have expressed that money is tight and they are afraid of committing to the cost of my 8-week program.
Three weeks ago, I connected with my old friend Patrick here in Los Angeles. Patrick and I met when we were 12 years old, and he is one of the few old friends that I have remained in contact with throughout our lives. We spent a couple days reconnecting, and had some deep and heady conversations about what it’s like for each of us to be humans.
Over this past weekend, Patrick created this GoFundMe campaign in my name, with the intention of generating funds for me to continue my work. My initial reaction to discovering this campaign was gratitude. I feel acknowledged and validated in knowing that Patrick was touched by my efforts, such that he felt inspired to create this means of generating resources for me in continuing my work.
What followed this feeling of gratitude was discomfort. Knowing full well that I am far from the only person feeling this pinch, and at that, knowing that the vast majority of those people are in more dire circumstances than I. Compounding this is the fact that I have never felt completely comfortable receiving money from people, even when it comes to offering my services in exchange for a fee. I feel doubly uncomfortable about promoting a campaign to collect funds for myself without an exchange of service.
What also occurred to me is that, like so many others, I simply need the money right now. I’ll be honest, I need money to keep the lights on and to pay the rent. If I could have financial stability, it would be a huge weight off my shoulders, which would allow me to be free and generous with my work as a coach and educator.
So, I sat for a while with the campaign that Patrick created for me, and all the thoughts and feelings I was having about it. This is what I came up with:
Every dollar of the funds raised in this campaign will be used as a scholarship for performers to work with me as a coach. I will ask my clients to pay what is comfortable for them during this time, and I will use the funds generated in this campaign to cover up to 80% of my coaching fee.
Here’s what I see possible with this campaign:
✨ Musicians have access to a meaningful transformation in their musical lives through working with me as their coach.
✨ My business will grow, and my audience will grow, creating abundance in my life.
✨ My abundance will allow me to be more generous with my coaching and teaching, creating abundance in the lives of my audience.
I’m really excited about the possibility of reaching a wider audience. I have a lot to give, and I would be happy just to give and continue giving if it weren’t for the need for resources in my life.
I know that my service is not for everybody, but if you would like to support me in creating access to my coaching and education to a wider audience, below are a few actions that you can take:
1️⃣ Share my campaign on social media. Repost it on your page or profile, or share it to your email list. Share it with anybody that you think would be aligned with my commitment to transforming the music industry!
2️⃣ Contribute funds to the campaign. If you have the funds available and would like to facilitate a transformation in the music industry, please consider contributing. Like I mentioned, I plan on using every single dollar contributed to the campaign to offer scholarships to prospective clients.
3️⃣ Contact me for a coaching/discovery call. I need musicians to work with! If you are out to get something big for yourself in music, and you would like some support in getting whatever it is, please reach out!
Thank you for reading, and thank you for your consideration! Please be safe, kind, and healthy.
So much love,
William Seiji Marsh
