Help Billy and Josh Recover from Burning Man Accident
Donation protected
Hi folks! For anyone lucky enough to have met Billy (i.e. Black Mold Billy) and Josh Halbur you know they will help anyone who needs it, no questions asked. Their kindness is always extended with ease and authenticity that makes even the most stubbornly self-sufficient of us, myself included, feel comfortable receiving their help. Well now our community has an opportunity to help them recover from a string of horrible luck on the way to/from Burning Man (BM) that has cost them $5040 so far.
In usual Billy and Josh fashion they hauled art/supplies for three camps (KAOS/EBF/Campy Camp Camp) as well as supplies for 2 virgin burners on the way into the burn. They got caught in a horrible windstorm and their trailer jackknifed into the camper. This destroyed their camper (i.e. their shelter to/from/at BM), Josh’s trike (his transportation at BM), and heavily damaged their truck/trailer. The truck was still driveable, but the trailer needed a tow and new tires to get back on the road safely. This entire debacle cost them $4,235 between the tow ($1144), insurance deductible ($1000), materials to make the truck driveable ($125), new trailer tires ($1083), and unexpected hotel rooms to/from BM ($883). At the burn Billy volunteered for DPW for 6 days, spending most of his time in Hell helping the art cars, camps, and fire art get the propane they needed for the event.
Even in a half-destroyed truck Billy/Josh still shared what they had and gave me, a fellow burner, and a DPW worker rides to Reno. They even shared their hotel room at the Peppermill for the DPW worker to have a bed to sleep in and access to their shower for multiple burners so they could clean up before traveling home. On our way to Reno the trailer tire hub/spindle sheared off and the tire blew. They had already had issues with the trailer tires prior to the accident and the total cost of these trailer tire repairs was $550. Sadly the trailer only lasted to Salt Lake and was unable to be repaired again. A generous person at Uhaul took the trailer in exchange for a reduced rate ($255) for a larger uhaul trailer for them to get everything back to Wisconsin. Thankfully they are on their way safely home and fingers crossed the rest of their journey is a smooth one. If there is any help you can provide Billy and Josh they would be incredibly grateful. I also know in a heartbeat they would offer the same help for any of us. Thank you so much for supporting our friends. We are so lucky to have them in our lives.
