Help Biu access gender-affirming care

Hi there

I'm Biu, a 33 year old non-binary trans person (they/she) based in Oslo, and I need to find some financial support to afford laser hair removal, for gender-affirming care.

Facial hair has been a primary source of dysphoria for me since before I even knew the word, causing problems with self harm, anxiety, and depression, especially as a teen. Since coming out publicly as trans a year ago that anxiety has exploded back with a vengeance. I'm currently on an extended sick leave, burnt out and fighting chronic depression, driven in large part by dysphoria.

I want to get back to work, to start engaging with my life fully again, but have realised that it's simply not possible without without medical intervention. Perversely, the Norwegian medical system accepts this in some cases but not others - it offers hair removal on insurance on a case by case basis. As a non-binary person assigned male at birth, I simply don't qualify and have no option but to get the care I need privately.

Oslo is not a cheap place and laser surgery is no exception. Each session costs 2 000kr (ca £150), and I've been quoted as needing around 10 sessions. So around 20 000kr to complete a full course. As a parent in a low-income household, everything i earn already goes toward childcare, housing and bills. I don't have any access to familial wealth, and have no spare time or energy to find part-time work given that I can barely work as it is.
