Hello!
Three teams from Bixby Middle School recently won top awards at the State Championship which has qualified them to compete against 40+ other countries in the VEX IQ World Championship! Currently, one of the teams is scoring in the top 7% of the world!
This year, the tournament will be held in Dallas, Texas, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center at the beginning of May. All year they have been working not only on building and designing their robots but have also been working on communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and cooperation. They are a team that supports one another, and I am proud to be coaching such a fantastic group of kids.
This is a HUGE achievement for the kids and such an excellent and rare opportunity for them as well. A description of the tournament and a video about the World Championship experience is listed below for those interested in viewing an amazing example of what the event is like and about.
We will not be able to attend this tournament without your generosity and help. Any amount you can contribute will be extremely appreciated in helping these kids continue to do amazing things as they pursue excellence.
What is Robotics?
Students have learned about engineering, mechanics, and programming - now, they must combine these skills to build and design a functional robot that must accomplish a task. This unique learning opportunity allows students to practice communication, problem-solving, and collaboration all while developing a practical skill set for the 21st-century workforce. Our students walk away with a passion for engineering and a desire to change the world around them.
VEX Robotic competitions combine the natural hook of educational robotics with the fun and excitement of collaborating and competing with friends and peers from across the globe. Our students have the opportunity to put the practical skills they've learned in the classroom to the test - and they consistently rock the competition!
