About SURVIVANCE:
The SURVIVANCE is composed of various personal monologues performed by a group of Canadian Black Deaf Women. These monologues are inclusive of trans women and non-binaries. Each monologue deals with an aspect of their intersectional experience, touching on heavy topics about oppressions such as racism, audism, ableism, transphobia, and more. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the colour of their hands as they navigate what it means to be Black, Deaf and a woman.
It is based on real Black Deaf women’s stories to build more representations for the younger generation and Black Deaf women to know they are not alone. It allows communities from all over the world to connect and share their stories to be empowered and healed.
SURVIVANCE will be performed by Natasha Bacchus, Hodan Youssouf, Jo-Anne Bryan and Tamyka Bullen. Ebony Gooden will be the director and tech support with Anna McIntyre, the Stage Designer.
Travel Request:
As the Festival is in France, we need to raise funds for travel and accommodation (5 flights to Paris and then on to Reims via train). Our fundraising target is $6,000 by June 7th,2022.
We are asking for your financial support in this endeavour. This invitation is a significant opportunity to develop new work by Deaf Black Women, represent Canada, and network with the international Deaf community.
We hope that you can support our fundraising effort and join us for a preview of our show before we leave for France.
