Help Bob’s Family After an Untimely Death

Bob. Dec. 2019. Before his routine surgery.

Bob, one month later in Jan. 2020.

Bob, one month later. Jan. 2020.
After being sent home with discharge papers saying he was good to go home, return for a check up in 5 weeks.

instead, he continued to fill up with infection (sepsis) which affected most of his internal organs, his mental clarity, his appetite, and causing him to nearly die from dehydration several times.

He never had any symptoms of being sick before he went for surgery.  Sepsis set in the day of the surgery that the surgery team  seemed to ignore offering him only Tylenol telling  him he’d be going home in 4 days. However, each day was a struggle for him to stay alive while suffering excruciating pain.

It seemed criminal! It felt like he was a guinea pig used as a specimen as they did in the Nazi concentration camps!
However, upon googling, this seems to be common in hospitals ESPECIALLY in North America!

People with chronic medical conditions, such as neurological disease, cancer, chronic lung disease and kidney disease, are at particular risk for developing sepsis. And it is fatal.
“About 1 in 4 patients with sepsis will die during hospitalization – as most notably Muhammad Ali did in June 2016. Christopher Reeves, aka Superman, also died from sepsis.”

Sepsis is the most common cause of hospital deaths in the U.S., ahead of both heart attack and stroke. Over one million cases of sepsis occur in the U.S. each year, and up to half of those will die. And the rate is increasing each year.
And i presume the statistics are similar in Canada.

Bob was a wonderful person.  However, he had a terrible accident 488 days before he died followed by many traumatic incidents compiling his misfortunes needing continuous bedside care 24/7 from me.  He died having no life insurance nor savings leaving many household bills, 2 cars unable to pass inspection, a house with 17 windows being held in with duct tape, a poorly insulated basement, no heat source other than a 35 year old wood furnace that needs to be fed every 4 hours, no fire wood, a 20 year old water heater, a broken washing machine, a leaky toilet, & an unfinished upstairs,

I’ve been working on repairing other parts of the house since spring with my handy son who does all the work for free. We were hoping to get the house tight before winter so Bob would be warm and comfortable living there but time wasn’t on our side.

Bob died Dec. 01, 2020, therefore there is no more extra money to buy materials or used appliances with. Since spring we have repaired a badly leaking roof, a very rotten deck, stairs, and spindles, replaced a large section of a rotten foundation wall,  along with rotten trim, fascia, & soffits, insulated and finished  the entry hall,  painted the house after 20 years, and put in a fenced vegetable garden.

As you can see we accomplished a lot in the hope that Bob could live comfortably there this winter.  Unfortunately, he died. Now I have no more funds available but so much more needs to be done. Im living here with extra layers to keep warm and using the wood from trees that were cut down on this property this summer. So far i have 2 cords of wood but need 6-8 cords for a winter supply. Bob had applied for a seniors grant to get financing for heat pumps. However, it was denied. So now i need to get more wood while I apply for the grant again but no guarantee i will be given financing either. None of the other grants Bob applied for were approved either.

Bob was under a dark cloud health-wise, medically, and financially leaving me, his former spouse, and his son (who couldn’t work as he was needed to care for his father who sometimes would fall), in dire straits.
I know that this is a very tight time of the year for most with Covid19 and at holiday time but I would appreciate any help that you can offer.
