Help Bonnie get on even ground again
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Bonnie and my husband and I have been married for 38 years. Like everyone, we’ve always had our ups and downs financially, but it seems the last few years, just when we thought we could relax a bit and not constantly struggle, we’ve sustained hit after hit. In 2012 I had a life-changing accident that left me unable to work, or at least to do the kind of work that requires any kind of physical effort. I have a bad right hip with a steel rod attached to my femur, a bad left shoulder, four herniated discs in my neck and lower back issues, all stemming from the accident. I have also had chronic atrial fibrillation since 2007 although we are controlling that with medication which seems to be working. My husband and I both worked as storage managers until 2012. His job was eliminated when our company decided to remodel our facility, eliminate the manager’s apartment and keep me on as manager with a $3 per hour raise. Two months later my accident happened. I eventually resigned after realizing I could not do the job any longer. I did receive a settlement from the accident but it was not nearly enough to last once the lawyers and Worker’s Comp got done. We were able to get a mobile home but it needed some repairs and eventually we ran out of money and lost it. My husband is unable to work due to a badly deformed foot and emphysema. Yes, we made some bad decisions and zigged when we should have zagged, but life doesn’t come with an instruction book. Since 2019, we have been rotating between cheap motels in our area and our car. Believe me, two people, both over 6 ft tall, sleeping in a Camry is less than ideal but you do what you must. Then the car became a problem and was beyond our means to correct, so now we are without transportation, or an alternative sleeping place. We need help ASAP. It seems that just when we think we are making progress another financial catastrophe hits us. What we would use this money for is, to catch up on our storage (everything we own is in storage and about to go to auction) pay off some small loans, maybe find a cheap used car, and perhaps find some low income housing (we have some leads). If you can help us we will be forever grateful. Thank you so much. Bonnie Stephens
