Help Bonnie Kick Cancer to the Curb!

Starting in the beginning of summer, Bonnie starting having some strange stomach pains that she knew weren't normal. Of course in typical Bonnie fashion, she kept insisting things were fine and they would get better with time. By September the pains got so unbearable that we started seaking doctors opinions. After numerous doctors appointments, scans and tests we received the most devastating news that no one wants to here. "She has cancer". Peritoneal Carcinomatosis to be exact. When we didn't think things could get any worse we were told that this cancer usually only presents itself in stage 4 and that it usually originates elsewhere in the body. This triggered more appointments and more tests/scans. This type of cancer is a tumorous mucus rather than a mass which makes it more difficult to pin point and remove. The mucus is in her abdomen causing severe discomfort and making it difficult to eat (which we all know Bonnie loves to do). We were referred to Boston after the Plattsburgh doctor said there was nothing else he could do. She had her first appointment Nov. 20th. The Boston doctor recommended doing an invasive extensive all day surgery called "debunking". They will go into her abdomen and remove as much mucus and cells that they possible can and flush the area with a liquid heated chemo at the same time. They let us know they may also have to remove all or parts of the appendix, spleen, intestine and colon depending on how those areas look when they are in there. Right now there is too much fluid to see clearly during scans. Doctor recommended she receive intervenous nutrition before this surgery to ensure best results. Surgery is scheduled for December 21st. She will have an extremely long road to recovery and will be expected to stay in Boston for minumum a month. We aren't a family that EVER likes to ask for help (some may say a bit stubborn) but we've had so many people ask how they can help. Insurance unfortunately doesn't cover much of the costs and doesn't cover things such as travel costs, prescriptions or hotel stays. This Boston doctor has given us a small glimmer of hope and with that she is not anywhere near ready to give up and neither are we! Bonnie has always been the heart of our family and I think everyone that knows her can agree she has never shown anything but love to all. She has worked her butt off and finally retired this year, she deserves to have many more years of free time to enjoy her family, grandkids, great grandkids and of course her favorite; days at fishcreek with her husband of 53 years, Ralph. We are more than thankful for any help we receive. Even a prayer goes a long way! Let's show Bonnie the love she has always shown all of us
