Help Brady Mistic get back on his feet

In September of 2019, Brady was wrongfully arrested by Idaho Springs Police after officers threw him to the ground and tasered him multiple times. Brady did not know what was going on. He is completely deaf, and he uses American Sign Language to communicate. Officer Nick Hanning, who has since been fired from the Idaho Springs Police Department, broke his own ankle while tackling Brady. In an effort to cover up his excessive force, Hanning charged Brady with Resisting Arrest and Felony Assault on a Peace officer. As a result, Brady spent four months in jail, where he struggled to communicate with the outside world due to a lack of resources for ASL speakers at the jail. The district attorney continued to prosecute Brady for almost two years after the initial arrest, but the charges were ultimately dismissed.

 

The four months in jail and the extended prosecution turned Brady's life upside down. He had to hire an attorney to fight the extended criminal case. He is currently unemployed and is struggling financially.  He would not be in this precarious position if it were not for the flagrant abuse of power by Idaho Springs Police.

All donations will go toward helping Brady get back on his feet, including contributing to past and future legal costs associated with the false criminal charges and to vindicate his constitutional rights. Additionally, if the donations exceed the goal, Brady has pledged to donate 50% of all excess money to DOVE (Deaf Overcoming Violence through Empowerment ) in order to support the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
