Help Brandon & Britney's Family Heal

My name is Morgan and I'm fundraising for my cousin and life-long best friend, Britney. When my son was hospitalized and eventually passed away a few years ago, Britney started a fundraiser for me. If it hadn't been for her efforts I would not have gotten to spend what little valuable time I had with him before he departed. I want to return her kindness now, as she and her family are hurting.

Britney's partner, Brandon Thorpe, is (as of 1/7/23) on a ventilator in ICU. Brandon began taking a supplement that was marketed to him at a local vape shop as a treatment for anxiety and depression. Believing it to be harmless he continued to take it with no issues - until he tried to stop. Brandon did the responsible thing when he recognized he was going to have difficulty stopping the use of this supplement, so he checked himself into a treatment facility focused on helping people safely detox. He was there for a short time before his health began to decline rapidly and he was admitted to ICU. His mind and body are working very hard to heal. We are all hoping for the best possible outcome but little is known about what to expect.

Brandon's family has been left reeling in this situation. Very little research is available about the supplement he was taking and the potential long-term effects he may be up against. It is treated as a controlled substance in other countries but is not approved by the FDA in the U.S., and yet it is allowed to be bottled in Georgia, labeled an infantile, harmless-sounding name, and sold off the shelves of Eastern Kentucky vape shops for literally anyone to pick up and consume. But this is another fight for another day.

Brandon and Britney have been together for more than 7 years and share a young son. Brandon has always handled childcare and running their household while Britney works. As you might imagine, Britney has had to miss a lot of work to be present and advocate for Brandon through this nightmare.

Britney is one of the hardest-working people I have ever met. She works hard to provide for and raise her kids. Britney is the kind of parent I wish I had growing up. She's loving and level-headed, a hover parent by her own admission, and she loves her family more than anything on Earth. As she navigates these uncertain times, I have set up this GoFundMe to raise funds to assist with the inevitable expenses associated with the up-ending of her daily life and the expiration of PTO from her job. Expenses will include the upkeep of her family's home and gas money to get to and from the hospital.
