Help Brenda Battle ALS

Hi there, my name is Amber and I am creating this gofundme on behalf of my mother, Brenda.

Brenda is a hard-working, strong, loving woman, willing to help anyone and make everyone smile. She enjoyed going to work every day to make her residents at the nursing home feel loved and cared for. She now needs that same love and care.

She contracted the COVID-19 virus multiple times due to exposure at the nursing home. She never seemed to bounce back, and her symptoms only got worse over time.

After years of many medical appointments with no answers, we were given one of the worst outcomes imaginable.

Brenda was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease, a progressive neurological disease that affects motor neurons, leading to loss of muscle control and, ultimately, the ability to move, speak, swallow, and breathe. As ALS gradually takes its toll, the need for specialized care and support becomes increasingly vital.

Brenda's ALS has progressed significantly and taken almost everything from her. Within the last month, she has lost her ability to walk and speak. This has been a challenging reality to accept as she has always been a go-getter, full of life, with a radiating smile.

I am asking for any help we can get during this time. The financial burden of managing ALS care is significant. The costs can quickly become overwhelming, from medical expenses to assistive devices, home modifications, and caregiving services. Medical appointments are three hours from her home, so gas becomes a very expensive bill. We will also need to prepare for end-of-life services in the future.

We are doing our best to navigate this journey with resilience and optimism and we need assistance to ensure that she receives the best possible care and quality of life.
