Help Brenda Conquer Cancer
Donation protected
"Tell it from the heart." Sounds so easy until you go try to type it, but I'll do my best.
On February 15, 2018, my mom, Brenda Scorfina, was taken to the emergency room by my sisters for what we thought was her gall bladder or appendix. We never dreamed it would be so much more than that.
My mom had a mass in her colon that had perforated through and spread to her abdominal wall and mesentery. They were able to remove the mass and do a colon resection (that was a blessing!), but they weren't able to remove all the cells. The outlook was pretty grim at this point, but they didn't know my mom. She has a warriors spirit!
The pathology report showed it to be mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma or MANEC that originated in her colon. That is a rare, aggressive, fast spreading, nasty cancer so they needed to start chemo fast and aggressive. She had her first chemo on March 14, 2018, but ended up back in the hospital on March 25, 2018 with a partial small bowel blockage. We decided to take her to MD Anderson in Houston after that.
At MD Anderson, we met with an oncologist that reminds my mom of her grandson. If you've been in this fight, you know even these little things can help you along. He has changed the diagnosis to high grade neuroendocrine carcinoma. It is still a nasty one and it's metastatic.
She has a hard road ahead of her with chemo and traveling back and forth to Houston. My mom is a warrior and I know she will give this one helluva fight. If anybody can conquer it, it's her. Any way we can relieve other stresses will help. A big one is finances. Donations will be used for medical expenses, travel, and care for my mom. All donations will be greatly appreciated as well as prayers!
