Help Brenna in the hospital after HIT AND RUN

Hi everyone. On Friday October 15 2021 around 8pm, my niece Brenna and her boyfriend were struck by a vehicle while using the crosswalk at Frankford and Belgrade in the Fishtown neighborhood in Philadelphia. The driver then proceeded to run Brenna over and sped away.

 

Brenna was rushed to the ER at Thomas Jefferson Hospital because of the severity of the accident and her injuries (thankfully her boyfriend was not badly injured). Brenna sustained cuts to her face and leg that required stitches, severe road rash across her abdomen, a broken right arm, a torn spleen, a broken rib and her pelvis was broken in two places.

 

The tear in her spleen caused internal bleeding so the first procedure they performed on her Friday night was to stop the bleeding and repair the tear. She then spent an agonizing weekend in the ICU waiting for the surgery to her pelvis on Monday afternoon (10.18). Her pelvis was broken in two places and the surgery took about 3 hours. And she will require surgery on her humerus bone in her arm. Brenna is very lucky to be alive and able to recovery from her injuries, but the road to her recovery is going to be and very long, painful and intense one. Best estimates for recovery time for these types of injuries is typically about 4 months but could take up to a year. Not to mention the healing she will have to do mentally to recover from this trauma.

 

I am setting up this GoFundMe so that Brenna can focus on her recovery and not worry about where the money is going to come from to pay lawyer's fees, her rent as she is unable to work, and other costs associated with her recovery. We are still unsure if the driver who hit her is insured, so that is a very big concern right now. Additionally, we are trying to secure a lawyer and some lawyers are requesting upfront fees and we don't want that to stop us from getting her a great attorney. The man who hit Brenna and her boyfriend is yet to be arrested.

 

Please help us take some of the financial concerns away from her so she can just focus on her healing.

 

If you don't know Brenna, you should. Brenna is the most lovable person you will ever meet. She's the brightest spot in the room, with the biggest smile and the best laugh. She's funny, smart, kind, compassionate and loves life. She loves her cat, her boyfriend, her family, traveling, hiking, spending time with friends, and discovering new places. It breaks our heart (everyone who loves her) that she will have to put her life on hold to recover from a crime that shouldn't have happened. Brenna currently works in the mayor's office in the office of Diversity and Inclusion and is currently also enrolled in UPENN seeking her Master's in City Planning. Her deepest passion is to help others, and she is often more worried about how other people are doing than she is about herself.

 

She will need every ounce of encouragement to recover from this.
