Help Brett Cobb build new home after 2021 tornado

On December 10, 2021 a record breaking tornado swept through much of Western Kentucky. While Brett Cobb, from Dawson Springs, Kentucky, was thankful to be okay, his home was not so lucky. A couple days after the tornado Brett found out that his house was said to be “unlivable” by storm and city inspectors.

Although, Brett was trying to make do with what he had left of his home and belongings. He tried to get the inspectors to spare his home, for it was all that he had; unfortunately his plea was not granted and his home was demolished; with no hopes of someone helping him rebuild his home or any kind of shelter for that matter.

Brett’s artistic nature lead him to deciding to try his hand at “Chainsaw Art.” Much to his surprise it felt pretty natural. This soon become an outlet for him; he enjoyed turning something that had been torn and scattered by a tornado that took out 75% of Dawson Springs into something pretty, unique, and something people wanted.

He was able to make some money that a led him to buy a camper, but it doesn’t come without its own issues. Being it was his only option for what he hopes to be temporary housing. He has been trying to save as much money as he can. But with the cost of daily living, it seems like it is going to take a while to be able to afford to rebuild. It’s getting cold and his only heat sources is propane which becoming a big expense. Unfortunately during demolition of his house, his power pole was also taken down and no one ever came to put a temporary pole up.

Brett has hopes to be able to raise enough money to build a more adequate shelter for himself. He also has plans to hopefully replace some of his wood working tools that were lost or broke during the tornado.

(Brett was unable to receive any sort of financial aid do to the recent passing of his grandmother, whom he was raised, and he was not the beneficiary of her estate.)
