Help Brett Get Life-Changing Eye Surgery
Donation protected
My name is Karen and I'm the mom of a son, Brett, who was born with Spina Bifida.
I officially retired in 2012 to care for Brett after a foot surgery that went badly. He went into anaphylactic shock on the operating table, was in ICU for a week, then in wound care for almost 2 years due to an infection caused by a wound vac machine. Brett's now confined to a wheelchair. With a small pension and our social security, we live paycheck to paycheck. I am trying to earn enough to buy food and pay for things Medicare doesn't cover for him by doing DoorDash. I can only do it a few hours a day because of his condition.
But this year has been really hard on us and I desperately need help to care for him.
After an eye infection earlier this year, Brett started having blurry vision and it kept getting worse. His eye doctor sent us to a cornea specialist. Brett has corneal scarring on both eyes. They are looking at laser surgery to help him now, but he may have to have cornea transplants in the next year. His insurance won't cover laser surgery.
I need help to pay for his surgery and to help cover our bills while I'm out of work to care for him. I have no family left to help us or stay with him while I work.
Brett is all I have and all I want is to get him the care he needs to live as good a life as possible. Please consider helping him. Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
