Help Brian End His Novel Before Cancer Ends Him

Donation protected
After 40 years writing in the film/TV industry (bartender) with award-winning films, a tv pilot, five plays and an award-winning short film (all that netted me about twenty thousand dollars) I decided to write the novel I never dreamed I could.

The idea was fresh, the characters were talking to me and the page count was growing. Then a shortness of breath became a “let’s check your lungs” CT, that became lung cancer surgery followed by a year of chemo and immunotherapy. My brain was fuzzy through it all, but the hope of clear headedness to write at the end was always my goal.

My novel is about multi-dimensional energies, the Bara that take over human lives at infancy. They live as humans until they accomplish what they came to do and return to Bara. Next week or next century, they return to Earth and start a new mission, another life.
Then a poison is unleashed that destroys energy. Yes, energy can be destroyed and the Bara are the target. Death suddenly becomes real to them.

And ironically, to me.

My final MRI/CT in January, 2024, my ticket to finishing my novel, instead became the discovery of Stage Four metastatic cancer in my lung, pelvis, spine and brain. Chemo and immunotherapy had failed. My life expectancy had become a quantifiable date. I told my doctor, she who would see me through the labyrinth, that I wanted enough time to finish my novel. She asked me how long and I said six months. She said okay.

I have no wife or children, but I do have an amazing circle of close, caring friends to help me through this. Since I can’t work, I have been living on a severely limited fixed income that leaves me scrambling to exist, forget about the medical bills and prescriptions. Finishing the novel is what keeps me getting up every morning to face that scramble.

This Go Fund Me was created to help support me as I finish the novel, but also to finance hiring an editor to whip it into shape (thousands of dollars) and then funds to self-publish (more thousands) and postage (even thousands more).
I’m not going to be around long enough to submit my manuscript and six months later get rejected by publishing houses. Let’s be honest, as a first-time novelist, it’s self-publishing or it’s stored in a box in the attic.
Ain’t no attic where I’m going.

Editing services will range from $6,000.00 to $10,000.00 depending on the novel's page count.
Self-publishing costs, being reasonable, will be around $8,000.00 per hundred copies. Shipping and handling estimated at $3,000.00.

My desire is to send a copy of the novel to any Go Funder who is willing to donate $100.00 dollars.
A $50.00 pledge would receive the first chapter of the book.
A $25.00 pledge would receive... something. My clear mind is fuzzy on this.

I am terrified and ashamed asking for donations, but my need to complete the novel is greater than fear or shame.
Thank you for considering helping me. Every one of your names will be etched in my memory. And in the book.
