Help me get back on my feet after cancer
Donation protected
In November of 2023 I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare type of cancer that targets the bone marrow. This came on the heels of a work related injury I sustained in July of 2022, in which I tore my left bicep. Looking back, I believe the injury was related to the cancer, but suffice it to say I have been out of work since the latter half of 2022. I began treatment for multiple myeloma upon my diagnosis late last year, and I completed stem cell transplant and chemotherapy in April. While my recovery is looking rosy, I am still not the carpenter and yoga teacher that I once was. Medicaid has denied my request for physical therapy, which only adds insult to injury. I applied for disability in December of last year, and as of this writing I am still awaiting a determination. I have been a member of the Motion Picture Studio Mechanics, IATSE Local 476 in Chicago, working as a carpenter in television and film for over a decade now. Hopefully, I'll be back to work before the disability payments ever come through, but as things stand today I'm not physically capable of going back to the twelve and fourteen hour days that are par for the course with my industry. Friends and family have been incredibly helpful over these last few years, providing lodging as well as monetary support. I'm grateful for their help, and I also recognize that those purse strings are getting strained. I am putting together this GoFundMe in hopes of bridging the gap between now and whenever disability payments start to roll in, or until I get back to work, whichever comes sooner. Thanks for any help you can give, including sharing this link and story.
