Help Bring Aiden & Teagan Home

Donation protected

When Kara said goodbye to her children on March 6th 2020, she had no idea that would be the last time she would get to see them or speak with them in person.  I have been a part of Kara, Aiden (11), and Teagan’s (10) lives since 2011. I have been with them through some of their highest of highs and their lowest of lows and just about everything in between. And, recently, their lives have been turned upside down.

In March of this year, Kara’s ex-husband had the children with him in Atlanta for spring break. He was supposed to return the children to Kara on March 13th per the court approved parenting plan. However, rather than return the children, he took them to a beach house in Florida and informed Kara he would be keeping them indefinitely. He has blocked any attempts Kara has made to see her children and has since fled back to Atlanta and now has taken the children to North Carolina. He even kept Kara from seeing Teagan on her 10th birthday.

Kara has been fighting to get her children back but this entire process has been frustrated by an unprecedented national crisis that has left courts closed. Police have been understanding, but without a court order they are unable to proceed. This situation is ongoing, and we are hopeful that recent actions will allow the court to intervene, however, there is no firm end date in sight.

This entire situation is heartbreaking, frustrating, paralyzing, and terrifying. Kara has very little contact with her children during a national pandemic. She has been forced to jump through several hoops and is emotionally devastated and physically drained. She has been the primary parent in their lives, a single mother for 4 years, and has never been without her children this long, so she continues to endure and to fight to bring them home.

She has been buoyed by messages of love and strengthen and the prayers of many family and friends. She has an incredible support system that has reached out to her daily. I personally know of all the many heartfelt texts, emails, and phone calls she has received, and I often hear the same thing: “I wish there was something more I could do to help.” And I understand that as well. It is frustrating to feel so helpless, but this is a way to do more, another way to help.

Kara’s legal fees in her fight to bring the kids home are growing. We are approaching two months since she has seen her children and two months of mounting legal fees. Any help would be appreciated (even if it is just sharing this post with friends and family, spreading the word to send more prayers). Knowing there is some financial relief can help to ease a bit of the weight she has been forced to shoulder so she can continue to focus on what is most important: working towards reuniting this mother with her children and bring Aiden and Teagan home.
