Help bring local veggies to the Athens Pantry

The Athens Community Farm is raising funds to continue bringing high quality produce to Athens, NY by providing CSA shares from local farms to the Athens Community Food Pantry and Rivertown Senior Apartments.

 

Working with local food access organization Long Table Harvest, the farm has been delivering community shares to the food pantry since early June, supplying 5 full boxes of fruit and vegetables every week. That’s over 680 servings of local produce brought to the Village so far this year!

 

The current CSA program concludes in October but we have the opportunity to extend this popular service through the end of the year with your help.

 

For the Fall season, we’ll be partnering with MX Morningstar Farm in Hudson to provide 8 additional weeks of produce to residents, enough each week for cooking and winter storage.

 

Volunteers from the Athens Community Farm will be picking up and delivering the boxes of produce each week but we’re asking for help to cover the cost of the shares. The generous team at MX Morningstar Farm has offered to donate 1 full season share (8 weeks of veggies for 1 household) for every 10 we purchase. We’d love to raise funds for at least 10  full shares to meet their offer by Thursday, October 22nd.

The Athens Community Farm is a community supported micro farm in the heart of the Village of Athens, New York that grows and distributes fruits, vegetables, and herbs. The farm is built and maintained solely by community volunteers and open to everyone.

 

The Athens Community Food Pantry is an all volunteer run emergency food pantry, servicing the citizens of Athens, New York. Guests are welcome to visit once a month and Seniors from the local senior housing facility are bused to the pantry on the third Friday of the month.

 

Rivertown Senior Apartments is located in the Village of Athens and provides affordable housing to seniors and others who are eligible.

 

MX Morningstar Farm grows a diverse array of vegetable crops on 30 acres in the Claverack/Hudson area. They farm using sustainable practices designed to maintain and build the health of our land long into the future.
