Help Bring Obang’s Mum Home

FROM OUR FILM PRODUCER AND DIRECTOR  - Jas Lynn

In 2003 Obang and his mother were separated as war and genocide invaded the Anuak tribe in Ethiopia. After spending 11 years in Kalobeyi refugee camp, Kenya, Obang was finally resettled in Perth, Western Australia. He was eventually granted an opportunity through Perth Bible College’s International Mission Teams to go back to Africa and reunite with his mother after 15 years of not having seen her. Not knowing if he’d ever see her or his people again, Obang’s faith and love of God allowed him to never lose hope in being reunited with his people. The heart that he has for his tribe is truly special to watch and it is a privilege to watch this story as it continues to unfold.

The very special moment of seeing his mother again took place in 2019 (see it yourself in the film viewing mentioned below) right before the pandemic occurred, and we are on the journey to reunite this mother and son once again. We are hoping to raise funds to bring Obang’s mother to join him in Perth. Funds raised will be for her visa, flights, quarantine, and any other expenses that may come up along the way.

We will be showing the film as part of our fundraiser on November 20, 2021 at Woodvale Baptist, Woodvale, from 4:00-6:00pm. If you cannot make it to the screening, your contributions towards this cause through our GoFundMe page would be greatly appreciated. We hope this story inspires many people as they see how God is moving in the lives of his children all around the world!

A FEW FACTS BY - Obang Girma:

*I Fled Gambella, Ethiopia because of genocide committed against my people, Anuak on the 13 of December 2003.

*I lived 11 years in two refugee camps in Kenya namely, Dadaab and Kakuma.

*The government of Australia granted me a humanitarian visa, I came in 2016, commenced my studies at Perth Bible College (PBC) in 2017.

PBC gave me a mission opportunity through its initiated International Mission Teams (IMT) in 2019 to go back on a short mission trip where I met my people again in Kalobeyei settlement camp, not more than 20 kilometres from Kakuma camp, Kenya, where I used to live. I met my mother again since we separated in Ethiopia, 15 later, that was very emotional to me!
