Help Bring Our Dad Home – Urgent Medical Fundraiser
Donation protected
Our dad, a man adored by anyone he encounters has fallen critically ill in Thailand. He is currently in a coma on a life support machine battling for his life in Hua Hin, Thailand.
4am Sunday 16th Feb my sister received a call from a Thai hospital. In broken English they told her our dad was dying, and in the next breath they were asking for money.
Sounding like a scam, my sister asked to be put on FaceTime video. What she saw was devastating - the lifeless body of our dad hooked up to machines in a foreign country, alone.
The next few hours/days (time doesn’t seem real) was/is a scramble to understand what was happening. After many stressful calls to the Embassy, lawyers, translators, we have ascertained he is critically ill with respiratory disease, and no travel insurance.
We have no idea why he doesn’t have travel insurance.
We didn’t even know he was in Thailand.
As a retired HGV driver, he has no savings, which means keeping him alive rests on his children paying the hospital bills.
Or worse, paying the hospital bills, and then paying to repatriate his body back to the UK.
Over the course of just 2 days we were sent a bill amounting to £10,000 from the hospital, and it’s escalating everyday.
We have no idea how long he will be in there, weeks? We have no idea what lies ahead. All that matters to us is that he is getting the care he needs. We are anxious they aren’t giving him the treatment he needs given his financial situation.
The last few days have been hell. I want my dad to come home alive.
As I write this update I am on my way to Thailand to be by his side and make sure he is receiving the care he needs. I don’t know what is waiting for me in Hua Hin.
Our dad is loved by so many, but his parter passing away three years ago left him devastated. Three of his children have dedicated their lives to serving others—one in the Armed Forces, one a Midwife, and myself ex ambulance service turned Healthcare provider.
We are asking for your kindness, your prayers, and, if possible, your financial help. Every donation, big or small, will go directly towards his hospital expenses, and the cost of bringing him home.
With love and gratitude,
The Wallace Family.
