Help Bring Potable Water to Binford Rd Homeless Community

Dear Friends,

My name is Tara Evans and I have been a street chaplain since 2018.

Water is an essential need to live; clean drinking water is a basic human right. (United Nations, 2010 Human Rights Council declaration).

Listening and learning about daily life for homeless Marin residents who live on Binford Road in Novato, Marin County, I learned that many of the people are immobile, unable to access clean and free drinking water. For those that are mobile, they must bike or walk 5 miles to a free potable water source located by Hwy 37.

Marin County is not providing these residents with access to a spigot OR set up a program to deliver potable drinking water.

Binford road is a shadeless scorching hot mile-long paved road with approximately 52 of Marin's poorest, most vulnerable residents. Residents are forced to live inside stifling hot RVs, vans, and makeshift habitats making this dire situation without potable water access dangerous and unhealthy.

Please help me deliver potable water this month as we experience extreme heat conditions, by contributing any amount you're able to the rental of a 500 gallon potable water trailer. I am going to deliver water as often as I am able to afford to, with a minimum of once per month starting this Monday, 6/10/24. The Binford Road community is working together to help with this potable project by storing water in their RV storage tanks and personal jugs.

Shame on Marin County Supervisor, Eric Lucan, for not ensuring access to a local clean drinking water source. The current distance to clean water (5 miles) is a barrier for disabled, elderly, and homebound residents, resulting in these Marin County community members having less than 15 liters of safe drinking water per day, the acceptable minimum universal standard for emergency situations stated in the International Sphere Handbook. Additionally, denying adequate access to drinking water for Binford Road residents is in direct conflict with AB685 Sec. 106.3 - the human right to safe, clean, and free water without barriers in California.

Please help me bring potable water home to Binford Road, thank you.
