Help Bring Rev. Callies' Story to Life
Donation protected
Hello! We are the MARCH (film) team. We are raising funds for the development phase of our feature film. This film will highlight the life of Rev. R. A. Callies who was a teacher, pastor, family man and a San Antonio activist. The film is based on the book, 'Man Behind the March', by Arlington Callies.
In April 1968, two days after Dr. King’s untimely death, Rev. Callies gathered his wife, kids and another family and harnessed the attention of his community when his caravan marched miles through the San Antonio streets to honor Dr. King’s legacy and lay a wreath in the midst of the ill timed World’s Fair. Over the years, this march that started with eight participants has grown to an estimated 300,000 marchers, the largest known march in the nation.
Rev. Callies fought for dignity and equal rights for the local disenfranchised by going toe-to-toe with the San Antonio City Council, whose leadership at the time seemed out of touch with the needs of the inner city and maintained a mindset that reinforced the oppression of the eastsiders.
We are determined to make the world aware of his storied legacy in San Antonio. We are planning to shoot this biopic feature film in San Antonio, Texas and the surrounding areas as soon as our fundraising goal is met. Our overall budget goal is $5 million. Our current fundraising goal is $20,000 to cover development costs as we attempt to secure recognizable actors via a Casting Director and a Production Designer.
We plan to:
- Premiere at film festivals to create buzz
- Seek distribution with theatrical release
- Seek a four wall/limited theatrical release
- Seek a straight streaming premiere
About this sizzle reel:
This is a sizzle reel created to exemplify to supporters the tone, context and flow of our film. It’s a small cross-section of the full script but it conveys the emotion and Rev. Callies' passion for his causes.
Disclaimer:
This sizzle reel was created by cutting scenes from other films and news coverage into the edit. Denzel Washington “depicts” Rev. Callies in this sizzle but he is not attached to this film.
No raffles, sweepstakes, giveaways, or returns on investment are offered in exchange for any donations made to this GoFundMe.
