Help Bring Shudder to Life at the New York Theater Festival!

Donation protected

Hi! Brighton here with another Showpeople Theatre Collective production headed to the New York Theater Festival!! We’re so excited for a second round at this festival— our last festival show, To the Fairest, gained quite a bit of traction since its original start as a one-act musical we wrote in just under 3 days……we’ve brought versions of the show to the NYTF as well as 54 Below (!!!!!), and we’ll be premiering a Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) version of Fairest this coming December! Needless to say, we’ve been busy!

Fairest aside, we’ve got a slightly different musical baby in the works… Shudder: A Chilling New Musical Comedy is based off a rather UNknown and horrific Brothers Grimm tale about a boy who couldn’t feel fear, and the weirdly scary AND funny trials he went through in his attempts to learn how to feel it. We musicalized this story last New Year’s Eve after about a week of writing nonstop (yes, we felt generous with ourselves this round). We premiered our weird little scary little hour-ish-long show as a filmed reading on YouTube—
—which you can watch above!

It’s also now a cast recording on most music streaming platforms!

Earlier this year, we submitted our libretto to the New York Theater Festival and we're pleased to say that we’ve been accepted for a short run in January of 2025 at the Hudson Guild Theater.

Now here’s where you come in:
Theatre is not made in a vacuum without resources. There’s a whole network of people working behind any kind of theatrical production with plenty of jobs in different skillsets! Lots of folks pull double, triple, even quadruple duty as actors, directors, playwrights, choreographers, designers… You get the drift. Especially in indie theatre where producers are working with much smaller wallets! This is why we need your help!

Your donation could…
  • let us rent rehearsal space in NYC
  • put actors in costumes
  • PAY our actors and creatives for their labor
  • assist in the sourcing and handmade creation of props
  • help defray the costs of printing physical programs, ads, and materials for our show
  • …….and so much more!

Ok, cool, I hear you say, but what’s in it for me?
Here’s the scoop. We’d love to…
  • credit our donors in our physical printed programs
  • feature your name on our website, with your consent! (Note that anonymous donations will not be credited online except via GoFundMe!)
  • let you feel confident with the knowledge that YOU support small theatre artists and the growth of their community!

We really hope you fall in love with our oddball horror-fairytale musical as much as we have over the past year of its existence! Please consider donating to our campaign— and, if you’re unable to donate yourself, please share our fundraiser with the theatre people in your life! We value your support so deeply.
