Farewell to Our Soup Meister, Ralf

Many of you may know that Ralf has been battling cancer for some time now, however, of late, he has taken a turn for the worse. His saving grace was set to be a clinical trial in Montreal, and once accepted, Renee immediately escorted him there two and a half weeks ago. Unfortunately, Ralf's health was unstable, and despite all efforts, he can no longer move forward with the trial, and his condition is worsening.

Paulah and family are in Montreal currently to be with Ralf however, they would desperately like to have Ralf come home to Vancouver to be surrounded by friends and family for the time he has left. This will require a medevac or private plane with medical staff and this must happen at the end of this coming week if it is to happen at all. The first goal is to raise the necessary funds to get Ralf home. If he is unable to fly, the family will all need to fly out and pay for accommodation in Montreal, and his sister will need to come from Germany for as long as possible. The fundraising goal has just been increased to address the quote now received to transport Ralf and Paulah home.

We all know the incredible impact that Ralf has had on our lives over the past many decades: a first employer for many North Van kids, teaching them life-long lessons, an ear to listen if you are sitting at his counter, a jokester when talking "football" and of course, the endless supply of chicken soup or any other nutritious creation when our loved ones or we are sick. All this is in addition to the incredible impact he has had on the lives of his grandchildren as Opa, and the love he has shared with them and all his family and friends.

While Ralf and Paulah should be relishing in the joys of retirement days, life has thrown them a curve ball, and now they need your help more than ever. Ralf never asks for anything from anyone, so we are asking for him.

Let's bring Ralf home - together, and let him know how loved and appreciated he is.
