Hello, neighbour's! I’m Jeicy, the creator and host of Stories Next Door, a podcast dedicated to bringing everyday voices and experiences to life. Growing up in an African household, I learned early on that career paths were often limited to traditional fields like medicine, law, finance, or engineering - journalism or storytelling didn’t fit in. Though I dabbled in radio during high school, I eventually put that passion aside to follow what I was expected to study.
In 2020, after the loss of my brother, everything changed. I decided to live with purpose, ended a toxic relationship, began therapy, and committed to doing what genuinely brought me joy. Attending community events introduced me to inspiring people, and I knew then that someday I would tell their stories.
In 2023, I finally took steps to bring this dream to life, but life threw another challenge my way - I lost my job. With no family in London and a struggling job market, I faced a tough choice between investing in my project or simply surviving. I chose survival, prioritising the essentials until I found work nine months later. After regaining stability, I revisited my dream, launching Stories Next Door and releasing Season 1. The final episode will be released in November 2024.
It’s been a privilege to sit down with incredible people - founders, advocates, fellow immigrants, change-makers, and friends. A highlight of this journey was interviewing Bien-Aimé Baraza, one of Africa’s biggest artists. These stories, filled with love, loss, resilience, and growth, remind us of our shared humanity, and I hope each listener finds a piece of themselves within them.
