Help Bring Wendie Home

Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,

We are heartbroken to share that our dear sister and friend, Wendie Swirski, has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic adenocarcinoma (invasive ductal carcinoma) breast cancer. This devastating news has brought significant changes to her life, including the need to move her back to Calgary from Nanaimo, where she can be surrounded by the love and support of family and friends during this incredibly challenging time.

As a dedicated team of eight Toastmasters friends living in southern AB and BC, we are rallying together to ensure Wendie receives the care and encouragement she needs. Wendie is facing a tough battle, with four known locations of metastasized bone cancer, the most painful being in her left hip, making it difficult for her to walk at times. As she prepares for the fight of her life, it is crucial that she is close to those who care for her and can help keep her spirits high.

The move back to Calgary has resulted in unexpected expenses that we, as a community, hope to alleviate. We are seeking to raise $6,100 to cover the following costs:

Trailer rental: $150

Travel/Fuel/Hotel: $1,000

Ferry (2x): $450

AirFare - Wendie and Noodle (her dog) - $700

Storage unit (until Wendie obtains a new apartment): $400

Damage deposit (not returned from current location): $1,700

First month’s rent: $1,700
