Hi all, my name is Brenda Lindmeyer, and I’m a longtime close family friend of Brittany and Eli Compton. Many of you may or may not know Brittany and Eli were blessed with their second child Levi this year, born in late July of 2022. Unknown to Brittany and Eli, little Levi was born with several physical abnormalities and excess fluid on his brain, which he will need multiple surgeries to correct. One of Levi's abnormalities is called Metopic Craniosynostosis, which is the premature fusion of the sutures in the skull while the baby is still in utero. These sutures must remain open for the first 1 to 2 years of an infant’s life so that their brains can grow and mature as they grow. Metopic craniosynostosis can cause serious life-threatening problems if left untreated, such as blindness, severe mental disabilities and delays, seizures, and even death. In February 2023, Levi will have surgery to re-open the fused sutures in his skull with a zig-zag incision from ear to ear, exposing his forehead to re-shape and reposition the front of his head. Levi was also born with an extra thumb on his left hand. This abnormality is called radial polydactyly. Levi will get surgery to remove the extra thumbs and an MRI to view the excess fluid on his brain called hydrocephaly, to determine if he will need a permanent headshunt to drain the extra fluid in January 2023. Levi is seeing an extensively long list of medical specialists at Gillet Children’s in St. Paul and Children’s of Minnesota in Minneapolis to get all his health issues taken care of with the required treatments and procedures for a better quality of life.
