Help Brittany and Her Boys Overcome This Crisis
Donation protected
We are reaching out to friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers to support Texas artist Brittany Pugh, a single mother of two boys, who is facing immense challenges after a severe car accident on the evening of December 28.
Driving alone in deteriorating weather conditions near Ben Wheeler, Texas, Britt lost control of her Toyota 4Runner, colliding with a tree. First responders had to use the Jaws of Life to extract her from the wreckage, and she was rushed to the hospital.
Britt survived—but her injuries were catastrophic. She suffered compound fractures to her right leg's tibia and fibula, as well as extensive crushing damage to her ankle. These injuries require a lengthy, painful recovery and will likely leave her with lifelong mobility challenges. Additionally, she sustained a large facial laceration, along with bruising and soreness, which will heal but have added to her physical and emotional toll.
As a single mother raising two boys (ages 9 and 12) on a limited income, Britt now faces an uphill battle. Her injuries mean she’ll be unable to drive, work, or care for her children for extended periods as she recovers. Everyday tasks—like bathing, attending appointments, or helping her kids with school—have suddenly become monumental challenges.
Why Britt Needs Your Help
Britt has faced more than her share of hardships. A previous traumatic brain injury and automobile reliability issues have already made it difficult to maintain work. She’s since pieced together a living through her art, furniture restoration, and food assistance programs, all while providing for her boys. Now, the accident has left her unable to generate income, and urgent financial needs are piling up.
These include:
• Rent and utilities: Bills are already overdue, and eviction is a threat.
• Living expenses: This includes food, clothing, school needs, and other essentials for her boys.
• Medical costs: Britt's healthcare expired during the early portion of her hospital stay, and the full extent of her medical expenses—surgeries, physical therapy, and more—remains unclear.
• Transportation: Tragically, Britt’s vehicle was uninsured at the time of the crash due to a lapse in coverage while she struggled to keep it running. She had planned to re-insure and sell it to fund a more reliable car. Without a vehicle, her family’s ability to attend school, appointments, and eventually work is severely limited. While this is not an immediate concern because of her recovery, it will become a major issue as she regains the ability to drive over the next weeks and months.
How You Can Make a Difference
Your support will go directly toward keeping Britt and her family afloat during this critical period. Every donation helps relieve the financial strain, allowing her to focus on healing and regaining independence. Contributions will cover:
• Monthly living expenses (rent, utilities, school costs, etc.)
• Medical bills and recovery-related costs
• A replacement vehicle when she’s ready to drive again
Britt’s strength and determination are unmatched. With your help, she can overcome these challenges and get back to her life as a devoted mother, talented artist, and passionate hiker.

Some of the damage to Britt's 4Runner:
Note, this is at the wrecking yard, not the scene of the accident.
It's amazing Britt doesn't have two broken legs.
We suspect this is the thing that hit Britt's forehead, creating the laceration and giving her black eyes.
The external fixation braces on Britt's broken leg and ankle. These have been replaced with internal rods and pins.
Our hero, on her first trip outside since the accident.
