Help Brittany and Son Dylan Through Alex’s Tragic Passing

It is with absolute devastation that we share the passing of Alex Smythe, beloved father, husband, brother, son, and friend. I have never felt more pain in my entire life. Watching my sister and best friend since the day I was born lose the love of her life at 34 years old is unimaginable. As a sibling, parent, family member, spouse, or best friend, you always want to take someone's pain away or fix it. There's nothing I can do to fix this or heal her heart, but the only thing I can think of is to make sure she and my 1-year-old nephew are okay. So many of you have asked what you can do to help. I want to make sure my sister & nephew, Dylan, the greatest gift Alex could've given to our family, is taken care of. Alex Morgan Smythe you are one in a million. The brother I always wanted and finally got in 2015. Thank you for being my sister's home, protector, and rock. This is so unfair, but I know you are at peace now. I love you forever, big bro.
On Friday, August 30, 2024, Alex succumbed to complications of dermatomyositis—a rare autoimmune disease. Alex leaves behind his soulmate and wife, Brittany Maher Smythe, who was a teacher before becoming a stay-at-home mom, their 19-month-old son Dylan, the love of their lives, as well as his beloved mother, sister, and extended family, all of whom he held dear. No words can describe this devasting, unimaginable, and unforeseeable tragedy for the couple who started their journey together in 2015. Alex began feeling unwell in April and struggled to work consistently as a real estate agent while doctors tried to find a diagnosis. In late July, doctors informed the 34-year-old that he had MDA-5 associated with Interstitial Lung Disease. Just weeks later, his health took a turn for the worse when he was hospitalized on August 9th and remained there until his passing. However, nothing could prepare the family for what would happen. As Brittany navigates this tragic loss, she now faces the daunting challenge of raising their young son without Alex; circumstances made further difficult with a mountain of medical bills, no income, and no life insurance policy in place. We are reaching out to ask for your support during this incredibly difficult time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help ease the financial burden and allow Brittany to focus on caring for her son and healing from this tragic loss.
