Help Brittany Recover from Hurricane Helene's Aftermath
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
Angie here, and I’m welcoming support for my sister, Brittany, after her home was devastated by the flooding from Hurricane Helene.
Brittany lives in Pembroke, Virginia, right along the New River in the Appalachian Valley, and when the biblical floodwaters hit, her entire house was submerged in 8 feet of water. Gratefully, Brittany and her dog Bb were able to evacuate to a friend’s place in town, but she lost almost everything inside the home.
Roads to her property were completely underwater and inaccessible for days, so Britt's boyfriend Drew captured drone footage to assess the damage. That’s when they saw the top of an 8-foot wood fence barely peeking out from the floodwaters—an aerial view was the only way to see it.
Although some counties in Virginia are eligible for disaster relief, Giles County, where Britt lives, has not yet been included, meaning she can't access FEMA assistance. Britt doesn't own the house, so she won’t need to cover the home repairs, but as you can imagine, she is facing a lot of unexpected costs to replace her belongings and take care of essential living expenses while she figures out her next steps.
Any support you can offer would mean the world. Thank you so much for reading and for any help you can provide during this difficult time.
