Help Brooke Study Abroad in France

Hi, my name is Brooke and I was recently selected to participate in Indiana University's Study Abroad Program (IUHPFL) in Brest, France. This will be a full immersion program that will consist of me speaking completely in French, staying with a host family, and not having a phone!

I will be in Brest for six weeks, staying with my assigned host family. On a daily basis, I will be in class studying literature, culture, and grammar. However, when I'm not in the classroom or spending time with my host family, I will be a part of IUHPFL's excursions around France. Some places I will go to are Brest (understanding the history behind where I will be staying), Mont Saint-Michel, Versailles, and last but not least Paris where I will spend my last three days.

IUHPFL is an incredibly selective program, only accepting the top students within Indiana to participate. I had to go through a lengthy process to make sure not only my French was sufficient for immersion, but my personality aligned with a program of such rigor. Additionally, I had to submit a timed prompt in French, which Indiana University Professors examined with high standards of excellence to be admitted.

Studying abroad will provide me with a worldly experience by an understanding of another culture, and help me further pursue my academic endeavors. I plan on majoring in French while in college, to then use it in my future career as a Healthcare Professional.
