Help Buddy (dog) Help Others
Donation protected
This fundraiser is to honor the memory of Buddy’s owner and where Buddy came from. As of 12/15/2020, 100% ($915) of the current donations were donated to the Bryan Fonseca Legacy Fund, benefiting the Fonseca Theater Company (charity) and the towards Pocky's medical sponsorship. Further donations will be used for Raceway Jr's medical sponsorship. We hope, Buddy will be able to help other dogs in need of medical help like he was and his adoptive owner's passion. Raceway Jr was recently transferred from IACS and is in need of immediate medical care.
The young puppy arrived suffering from two fractured elbows. He currently cannot walk, let alone bounce or play the way a puppy is meant to. Indy Humane is in need of your help covering the costs of Raceway Jr’s plates, pins, surgery, medications and recovery.

We've raised and donated $542.50 towards Pocky's new legs!! He's had his second surgery and is doing great!! He's a sweet, lovable 9 month Pomeranian (I've walked him so speaking from experience). He jumped from someone's arms and broke his legs at his former rescue. He needed money for his orthopedic surgery and hardware so he can be whole again and find his furever home.
Pocky needed pins and surgery for his broken legs.

Buddy's Story
I'm a volunteer at the Humane Society of Indianapolis. Another volunteer had a friend having urgent medical issues and his dog, Buddy, needed someplace to stay (and I had worked with him before). I lost contact with the owner after a week. At 2 weeks, Buddy was acting weird. We found pieces of our dog toys in his vomit and rushed him to the emergency vet where an ultrasound and x-rays showed a linear foreign object which lead to the emergency surgery. Left untreated it would have perforated his intestines.
He was pretty shy in the beginning and I thought this was super cute that he was playing with toys (at the time). Less so, when I found the knot of the beaver toy in his vomit.
Buddy was in our care so we made sure he got all the care he needed. The recovered object was a part of toy that didn’t match anything in the house, so it had been in there for some time. It actually turns out that he has a ridiculously high metabolism and appetite and this was eventually going to happen whether here or somewhere else. He’s now eating the proper amount to maintain his weight which is 3x more than Penny (similar weight at the time).
After surgery and he was released.
Evil pink triangle on a string (severed when it was removed from 2 different places). The brown part was from his vomit (the indicator that let us know what was going on and to take him in). I think the orange thing might've come from here.
A while after Buddy was all healed up, I heard back from one of the owner’s friends. His owner had a long, difficult recovery ahead and wouldn’t be able to keep Buddy anymore. Based on how much Buddy loved the other dogs, we were going to keep him. While the wonderful friend insisted on helping cover the costs, we politely declined (several times) as we typically donate to animal welfare anyway. When we went into this, we hadn’t expected to get the money back so it was definitely appreciated. Tragically, the owner passed away the next day. I hadn’t met him before but it was still heart-wrenching, we had communicated some and I had learned a lot of great things about him.
After it had been healing for a while. Cute, little fox.
GULP! It was still money well-spent and I'd do it every time. Even if I didn't get to keep him. I've been told that I actually had it pretty "cheap" for the quality of surgery and because we got him in early so no damage had happened yet.
Buddy is an amazing dog. He’s so sweet and has done so well fitting in with the other 3. Even the really difficult one. He LOVES his dog friends. We considered it providence that we were in the right place at the right time to save him. He's good a lot of things alone but he's on permanent toy probation.
Buddy, Penny, and Max. Buddy greets his dog friends every time he sees them with a kiss.
We regularly donate and help out in cases like this – this was much bigger than usual, particularly for one dog. So, this will definitely reduce that for a bit which is why we’re doing this fundraiser.
I hope this brings more publicity to the Bryan Fonseca Legacy Fund and the Humane Society of Indianapolis.
Howloween - Spooky Kirby Ghost (friend's dog), Max Mummy, Frankenbuddy, Witchy Penny, and Spider Mr. Peppy
You can still see a scar but it's healed so much better than I thought it would. He's so much more playful than he was before too.
