Help Us Build a Winter Turnout Area for the Sanctuary’s Friesian Girls
Following the success of last year’s campaigns, which not only allowed us to provide the very best veterinary care for the Friesians in need, they allowed us to begin improving the facilities here at the sanctuary. We’ve been able to make great strides in creating a better environment for a lot of the horses in our care. However, there’s still much work to be done to complete all the projects on last year’s list but we like to keep looking forwards and planning ahead.
Many of you have rightly suggested that providing a dedicated winter turnout area for the girls should now become a priority for this year. We couldn’t agree more, and your continued support and encouragement inspire us to tackle this essential project!
Why We Need Your Help
:
The winter turnout area for the boys has been a game changer, giving them a safe and comfortable space during the wetter months. Now, it’s time to do the same for the girls. Building a suitable area for them comes with challenges, as we’ll need a larger structure to accommodate their needs. This will likely involve additional costs for materials, potentially approval processes, and improvements based on what we’ve learned from the boys’ setup.
If we were to create a similar design, we’d need:
* A larger mobile building (to avoid requiring full planning permission).
* Ground preparation and installation costs.
* Planning office fees if we aim for something more permanent under ‘permitted development.’
The boys’ turnout area cost approximately £25,000, so we’ve set this as an initial target for the campaign. However, we anticipate the total cost for the girls’ area will be higher. This campaign will allow us to get started and assess what’s possible as we gather more information.
Additionally, any funds already received and not used as part of the 2024 £110k campaign will be added to this campaign. This ensures that your generosity continues to go directly toward making life better for the horses at the sanctuary.

Separate Campaigns to Focus on What Matters to You
After much thought and careful consideration, we’ve decided to run separate campaigns throughout the year for the various projects here at the sanctuary. We know that everyone has different aspects of the sanctuary that they’re most passionate about supporting, and by dividing the projects, we hope you’ll feel more connected to where your contributions are going.
Whether your heart is drawn to the care of the horses, supporting the humans who work tirelessly here, or helping to improve the historic Grade II Listed farm itself, you’ll be able to see the direct impact of your generosity. We want you to feel proud of the contribution you’ve made toward making life better for every resident and every visitor to Greenbank Farm.
In return, we’re committed to sharing as much of our lives here with you as possible. Our YouTube videos and updates will give you an honest, real look at our day-to-day happenings—the good and the not-so-good. We hope these glimpses into our world will help you feel connected to us, to nature, the horses, ponies, sheep and dogs and the sanctuary’s mission.
