Help Build a Violence Against Women Shelter
67% of Canadians have known a woman who has experienced sexual or physical abuse.
Women in Canada live at a greater risk of domestic violence and sex trafficking than men. For Indigenous Women, the statistics are even more dire.
Why is it urgent that we support our local VAW (Violence Against Women) shelters?
On any given day in Canada, more than 3,300 women (along with their 3,000 children) are forced to sleep in an emergency shelter to escape domestic violence. Every night, about 200 women are turned away because the shelters are full.
Those sobering statistics are why I am raising money for an organization close to my heart, Green Haven Shelter.
Green Haven Shelter is a feminist organization dedicated to promoting the rights of women, with or without dependent children, to live in an environment of mutual respect. Green Haven Shelter, based in Orilla, Ontario, is a VAW (Violence Against Women) Shelter, offering shelter, safety planning, crisis counseling, youth services, legal support, and more. In 2018, nearly 90 women were in the service with a quarter of them identifying as Indigenous.
Green Haven Shelter is currently fundraising for the construction of a new building that will support higher numbers of women and children who have been subjected to violence. Unfortunately, they are short on funding and that is where you come in.

Funds raised by this GoFundMe Campaign will help fund the kitchen for their new shelter. The current kitchen (pictured below) cannot support the volume of residents nor is it accessible to those with limited mobility.
The kitchen is the heart of any home and in many ways, it gives people a sense of belonging. Your donation can help do just that.

The need is so high, this shelter works in the community as a shelter but also advocates for women and families who are vulnerable and in crisis. Please join me in donating today to help the women and children in this region.
Thank you ❤️
