Help Build Chakra Khan: Facilitating Healing

Donation protected
In 2018, I built an installation called, “Opening The Closet,” which served as a personal love letter to my community. During this process, I came into a better understanding of myself as an artist. After taking the installation to Burning Man last year, I returned drained emotionally, physically and energetically.  I realized that in the process of creating public art, I had neglected to take care of myself. In an effort to heal myself and to create space for others to thrive, I began my newest piece, Chakra Kahn.

I built this piece to search for the core that grounds me. I also created this for others. I wanted to create art that holds collective processes of connection and transformation because I know the need is beyond my individual capacity.  So often we are asked to show up as part of ourselves and there are not enough spaces for moving through grief and trauma.  I know this is needed in our communities because so many queer and trans folks who interacted with The Closet felt recognized and represented at Burning Man in a way that our lives are often not validated. Chakra Khan is an offering for people to be whole.

It is an expression of my journey and healing from hardships and trauma. Please read a bit about the sculpture, and how together we might collectively heal.

What is it?

A 10-foot humanoid figure with sound healing powers. This interactive piece is participant activated. Sound healing meditations last between 10 to 70 minutes. The meditation begins from the root chakra and ascends to your crown with spinning, illuminating mandalas for personal healing and connection in a collective setting.

The Plan: I am bringing Chakra Kahn to Burning Man where over 80 thousand people will be in attendance and thousands will interact with Chakra Kahn and it's healing.  In addition, I plan to travel this interactive piece to schools, communities and events to facilitate meditation and healing.

This piece has been my heart and soul for the last year. I’m certain that it can serve a great purpose in our community and lives. An effort like this takes a lot of resources to implement. In order to realize the true potential of Chakra Kahn, please give to this healing sculpture. Anything you donate will go directly to the materials for building, travel costs associated with Burning Man and some community outreach when I return. Your gifts have a great impact on my life and the lives of others. Thank you.
